Grid-based Statistics and Metrics

A large proportion of spatial data is now provided in the form of single attribute grids, each cell of which contains a value that indicates the measured or computed average level of the attribute within that cell. Grids are often georeferenced, so may be located on the Earth's surface and linked to other georeferenced datasets. Statistical and 'metric' functions applied to grids may be within-grid, which is the usual situation, or between grids (e.g. comparisons, similarity measures).
